Stay Vigilant When Using Social Media

Phishing

To keep the university community informed about some of the latest scams and viruses lurking in cyberspace, this week UF’s Office of Information Security & Compliance launched a new Web page:

http://security.ufl.edu/alerts/

This page will be updated often, says Rob Adams, UF’s Chief Information Security Officer:

“There are numerous threats to social media apps, data security, and software reported every day,” notes Adams. “We want all of campus—students, faculty, and staff—to be aware that new, sophisticated phishing scams and malware pose a real danger, not just to UF computers and networks but to their personal information and online accounts.”

Information Security & Compliance staff read and review threat assessment warnings daily, from a variety of law enforcement bulletins, as well as IT blogs and other new media sources. Those threats identified as most relevant to the UF community will be posted on http://security.ufl.edu/alerts/.
