UFIT’s “IT Security is You!” new employee guide focusing on information security awareness is now online. All faculty and staff attending a Human Resource Services’ new employee orientation session receive a hard copy. The guide offers helpful tips for everyone, regardless of whether you’re new to UF or have been part of The Gator Nation for years. Some of the important areas covered are:
Phishing is when someone tries to get you to reveal personal information by pretending to be a trustworthy company, brand, or even a university department. Learn more before opening email attachments or clicking on links embedded in emails.
Create a strong password with a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Remember, UFIT staff will never ask for your GatorLink or a system password. More tips about passwords are available here.
In addition to cybersecurity tips, the guide lists several policies related to using UF’s computing resources, connecting to UF’s network, or working with confidential information. The guide also notes several training opportunities, such as the Cyber Self-Defense class. For the latest Information Security Office alerts and resources, visit their website.
