World’s Most Advanced AI System Available at UF
July 13, 2020

UF is the first university to acquire the NVIDIA DGX™ A100 — the world’s most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) system. The two nodes arrived on June 25 and mark a significant step in the university’s initiative to become a national and international leader in the application of AI. Installation of the NVIDIA system, coupled with other recent enhancements to HiPerGator, elevate UF research and teaching and learning. As well, the investments in HiPerGator spur economic development and innovation for the marketplace because of the opportunity for start-up companies to become investors.
UF is committed to hire 100 new faculty specifically focused on AI. The university is also embarking on a unique plan to infuse AI across academic majors, creating a “next gen” AI-enabled workforce that can use the technology to solve global challenges. The new NVIDIA system provides a much faster data processing speed and a lot more capacity to do big things. Having these two nodes already installed allows researchers to become familiar with the technology before HiPerGator 3.0 comes online in January, 2021.
