October 22, 2015
Dell’s chief commercial officer and president of Enterprise Solutions announced the inaugural Impact Award winners at Dell World 2015, held October 20-22 in Austin, TX. This new awards program has five categories–Big Data, Cloud, IoT, Mobility, and Security. The University of Florida is the first-ever recipient of the Impact Award for Big Data.
UF won of course because of HiPerGator. Dell cited HiPerGator’s ability to quickly process the enormous amounts of data required to conduct world class research in its decision to name UF as the winner. As one of the most powerful university supercomputers in the U.S., HiPerGator has been accelerating research in both the physical sciences and the humanities. Because of HiPerGator’s processing speed, University of Florida researchers are leading the way internationally in areas as diverse as climatology and the influence of HIV on the human brain.
Vice President & CIO Elias Eldayrie was on hand to receive the Impact Award on behalf of the university. Visit Dell’s Impact Award winners page to learn more about why UF won and to read about the other four category winners.
