Fall 2014 Research Computing Day unveiled new possibilities for big data with IBM’s donation of the PureData for Analytics (PDA) system. The system, housed at the UF Data Center, is now available for use by UF researchers.
UF Research Computing staff and IBM representatives discussed the system’s capabilities and the impact it will have on UF research. Vice President and CIO Elias Eldayrie said the system will allow researchers to analyze information more efficiently and help research get to the marketplace faster.
“The power of the IBM PureData for Analytics system is unbelievable. If you want to do a query between 10 million and 100 million data sets on a typical database, it will take you about 27 hours to run. On this device, it takes three seconds to do the same thing.”
