UF’s Eduroam Network Use is Global

SCREEN CAPTURE: Eduroam usage worldwide for June 2018 by UF authenticated users.

In June 2018, GatorLink credentials were used to log in to the eduroam network in more than 30 countries and at over 130 locations in the U.S. UFIT received 295,991 connection requests last month and authenticated 3,097 unique user devices around the world.

Why use eduroam? Because it is a secure, worldwide roaming access service that allows all UF faculty, students, and staff to have immediate internet connectivity at 6,000 universities and organizations worldwide. Your GatorLink credentials enable you to log in without the need of a special account or password from the institution you are visiting.

In the United States, the most eduroam GatorLink authentications are of course in Gainesville. However, at least 40 members of Gator Nation travelling in June logged on at each of these institutions: USF, the Smithsonian, Emory, UCF, Georgia Tech, Miami, Florida State, Harvard, NYU, and George Washington University.

A project is underway to migrate all UF wireless network users from two connection options (UF and eduroam) to just eduroam. Anyone needing assistance setting up wireless connectivity on their mobile devices is welcome to contact the UF Computing Help Desk (132 Hub, 352-392-HELP/4357, helpdesk@ufl.edu.)
