Testing of New Unified Wireless Networks Begins May 6

Two students studying in library

UF’s new wireless networks will open for testing on May 6 with the start of the Summer A term. Testing will be open on Main campus and Housing and Residence Education areas. Testing at UF’s Academic Health Center will begin later this summer.

Improvements as a result of the Unified Network Project include a common access method across campus, credential caching to avoid repetitive logins, automated configuration, IP mobility, and better security for wireless devices using the network.

Wi-Fi users will see two new wireless service set identifiers:

1. “uf” for general GatorLink access
2. “ufinfo” for assistance with configuration and problem resolution

The new Wi-Fi networks require users to configure their wireless devices. The automatic configuration tool XpressConnect is highly recommended. Users who connect via “ufinfo” will automatically be directed to a welcome page with instructions and links. After configuration is complete, users may connect to “uf” and login via GatorLink.

Please contact the UF Computing Help Desk if you have questions or problems connecting to the new UF Wi-Fi networks.
