University of Florida Information Technology (UFIT) recently completed the extension of the main campus network out to Innovation Hub. Through this network, Innovation Hub tenants automatically have access to Internet2, the National LambdaRail, and research and education networks worldwide.
Innovation Hub is the first building of UF’s Innovation Square, a 40-acre development east of campus. Innovation Hub is an all-inclusive business environment or “business incubator” designed to nurture research and technology start-ups. High-tech office space, laboratories, conference rooms, and other services are all available in the hub. At its dedication ceremony, UF President Bernie Machen said, “The Innovation Hub will serve as a catalyst to get innovation from university laboratories into the marketplace, where it can have an impact worldwide while creating jobs in Florida.”
Looking forward, UFIT will next partner with Gainesville Regional Utilities to extend access to users located throughout the Innovation Square complex.
