UFIT is working with UFHealth and the Division of Student Affairs to migrate wireless network users from two connection options (UF and eduroam) to just eduroam. This three-phase project launches in January, 2018, and is expected to take 18 months. Despite the broad reach of this project, everyone’s on-campus wireless experience will remain the same.
UF joined the eduroam wireless service in 2014, part of a user community of 6,000 universities, research centers, and academic complexes worldwide. You can authenticate via your GatorLink credentials at any eduroam location and have instant, secure Wi-Fi access. Project benefits include being able to consolidate network use across UF’s multiple environments: the Academic Health Center and Housing and Residence Education will be on the eduroam service along with main campus users, providing a single wireless environment to manage. In addition, changing everyone’s wireless network default to eduroam means that all personal- and university-owned devices using the UF wireless network will be automatically configured to work at eduroam institutions worldwide, making it easier for staff and students to collaborate across academic institutions for conferences and programs.
During Phase I, all devices will work just fine with their existing configurations–no change is necessary! New devices connecting for the first time via http://getonline.ufl.edu/ will be automatically configured to eduroam.
This project does not affect the ‘UF Guest’ wireless access process.
