June 24, 2014
UFIT is upgrading the Lync service beginning Friday evening, June 27. Many new features, as well as expanded device compatibility options, will be available after the upgrade completes on June 29. In addition to the current instant messaging, online video, audio and dial-in conferencing capabilities, the upgrade to Lync 2013 means UF users will have:
Skype Support and Google Chat
Call or IM Skype users and chat with Google Talk users around the world.
Lync Web App
Meeting participants from outside the UF network can participate with only a web browser add-in instead of needing to install the full Lync software.
Mobile Device Functionality
iOS, Android, and Windows Phone users can join conferences with audio and video from their mobile devices.
Some of Lync’s services may be unavailable until the upgrade completes on Sunday, June 29. Visit the updated Lync FAQ page. Call or visit the UF Computing Help Desk (352-392-HELP/4357, 132 Hub) if you have any questions or need assistance using the Lync 2013 service.
