File-Express to be Sunsetted: Nov. 15, 2018

GRAPHIC: Tombstone announcing the sunset date for the UF File-Express service.

At the Aug. 28 campus IT directors meeting, Associate CIO Saira Hasnain announced that File-Express will be discontinued effective Nov. 15, 2018, due to its incompatibility with the newer version of Linux in use at UF.

File-Express had approximately 1,100 active users in the last three months, with a third of those users also having UF Dropbox for Education accounts. While the UF Dropbox environment is not a perfect fit for every file-transfer need at UF, it does have similar functionality to File-Express. File-Express users should discuss available alternatives with their local IT support staff as soon as possible to determine what works best for their particular use needs.

UF Dropbox for Education accounts are free for faculty and staff and is a pre-assessed solution by the Information Security Office for use with sensitive and restricted data as defined on this page. (Users must pass a short quiz when setting up their UF Dropbox account in order to use the service with sensitive and restricted data.) Instructions on sign-up and service FAQs are available at https://cloud.it.ufl.edu/uf-dropbox/. Please contact the UF Computing Help Desk (352-392-HELP/4357, helpdesk@ufl.edu, 132 Hub) for assistance with any of UF’s file-sharing options.
