Deprecation of Skype for Business Service

GRAPHIC: UF Skype for Business end-of-life date is May 9, 2021

In preparation of Microsoft’s retirement of Skype for Business Online, UF’s Skype for Business (SfB) service will be deprecated on Sunday, May 9, 2021. Microsoft offers a replacement option through its Teams tool, available via the Office 365 suite of products.

UFIT selected the May 9 date since it falls between the Spring and Summer A terms, thus minimally impacting teaching, learning, and research activities. To prepare for this change please visit UFIT’s MS Teams site. This website has video links, a Quick Start guide, and other documentation resources. Coming soon: The MS Teams site will have details about what IT support staff need to do to prepare for the SfB deprecation, as well as an end-user PDF on using the Teams tool.

Prior to May 9, the choice of switching existing Skype meetings to either a Teams or Zoom meeting is the preference of the meeting owner. On May 9, any remaining Skype meetings will automatically be converted to Teams meetings, with all meeting participants required to connect using the Teams web or desktop client. Please discuss any concerns and potential implications to business processes with your local IT director.
