The University of Florida ranked #6 in the 2019 report of best U.S. campuses for students with disabilities. UFIT provides numerous resources to support compliance with federal Section 508 guidelines that relate to Electronic Information Technology Accessibility (EITA). Gerry Altamirano, Assistant Dean and Director, Disability Resource Center, notes the support UFIT provides by enabling the SiteImprove tool for campus:
“The Disability Resource Center envisions a universally accessible UF community. Through campus partnerships we aim to create equitable learning opportunities by addressing attitudinal, physical, and technological barriers. UFIT shares our mission and commitment to champion web accessibility. Through procuring SiteImprove, UFIT gives instructors and staff the tool to ensure their website content is accessible. This has helped to advance inclusion for all gators.”
SiteImprove, available on the Accessible UF website, is an easy to use, accessibility management tool to help users evaluate and strengthen the accessibility of websites. Evaluation includes identifying EITA issues, improving web accessibility in accordance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, providing an overall rating of the site and where to make improvements, and helping to monitor broken links and misspellings.
Please contact EITA Program Manager Anne Allen to request SiteImprove access for your college or unit.
