Tech Tasks Before Leaving for Winter Break

Congratulations on finishing the fall semester, Gators! Before leaving for winter break, Student Affairs IT has some recommended tech-related tasks for students who live in a UF residence hall:

1. If you decide to leave your technology behind, be sure to lock it up in a dorm cabinet. The university is not responsible for your personal belongings if something gets stolen. Cabinets used for tech storage should be at least three feet above the ground in case there are any unforeseen flooding issues.

2. GatorLink account passwords tend to expire during break periods. To avoid any login issues over the break or in January, change your password before leaving Gainesville.

3. Be green as well as blue and orange: Help UF conserve energy by completely turning off all devices not in use over winter break. Just leaving devices in “sleep” mode still uses unnecessary amounts of energy for the three weeks you are gone.

Extra bonus tip! If you’re returning with a new device or two in January, think ahead and pre-register them on the UF residential network. This way you’re ready to go as soon as you get back to campus. Students may contact Senior Director Matt Pendleton with any questions about IT in UF’s residence halls.
