Moving UF’s Preview Programming Online

SCREEN CAPTURE: A virtual presentation about the International Scholars Program from UF Preview

The Dean of Students Office partnered with UFIT to move UF Preview online. Preview is the annual summer orientation program that helps students transition to college and provides family members with an understanding of the student experience. In response to COVID-19, the Dean of Students Office wanted to replicate the on-campus program remotely and provide incoming students and their families with a holistic view of life at UF. Within one month, UFIT staff developed more than 60 course sites and produced 70 videos.

UFIT’s Center for Instructional Technology and Training (CITT) developed the Preview course sites within a course development framework equivalent to designing four full-length courses in a timeline that was 70% shorter than average for a course. Preview is traditionally comprised of 60 on-campus sessions. Now, students and families enroll in an e-Learning Preview course and are guided through modules introducing them to academic requirements, advising, and campus resources. While most of the sessions are asynchronous, students also attend synchronous video meeting sessions with advisors, staff, and their peers. The CITT’s academic media productions team produced presentations for several colleges and programs. UFIT also captioned all videos to ensure accessibility.

Please submit a request for consultation with the CITT if you would like more information about the services offered.
