Canvas Selected as UF’s Centrally-Supported Course Management System

Effective immediately, the University of Florida will transition to Canvas as the centrally-supported course management system (CMS). The Sakai CMS will remain a production service through fiscal year 2015-2016.

The move to Canvas is the result of a recommendation from a CMS review committee chaired by Ray Issa, member of the Faculty Senate IT Committee. The move to Canvas will also align UF with strategic partners pursuing future developments in course repositories, course management systems, and learning analytics.

The transition to Canvas will be complete by summer, 2016. It is recommended that faculty plan accordingly to ensure their courses are in Canvas prior to the beginning of summer, 2016.
UFIT is providing the following services to assist in this transition:

Training
Both face-to-face and “just in time” training is available. Workshop schedules and online resources are listed on the IT Training page.

Course Conversion
Faculty not requiring conversion assistance can immediately start using Canvas. Click on the Instructor e-Learning Course Request link to request a Canvas course account. Faculty requiring conversion support may request it now, with assistance beginning on a first-come, first-served basis after July 1, 2014.
