2015 Fall IT Assembly: Connecting the Dots

Professor Wendell Porter speaking at the 2015 Fall IT Assembly

Nearly 280 people attended this year’s Fall IT Assembly, held December 14 in Emerson Alumni Hall. After everyone filled their plates and got seated, Vice President and CIO Elias Eldayrie gave a presentation called “Connecting the Dots” that provided examples of how each member of UFIT contributes to the success of the division and, ultimately, to the mission and goals of the University of Florida.

The Assembly featured two faculty speakers. Dr. Lauren McIntyre shared how Research Computing’s consulting services allows her and her staff to maximize time spent on genome research and not on information technology needs. Professor Wendell Porter (pictured) discussed how he entered the online teaching and learning environment, his massive open online course developed in tandem with UFIT, and how UF’s approach to online learning has forever changed the way he teaches. Both faculty speakers were very well received, as evidenced by the laughter and clapping heard throughout the ballroom. The event video is now online.

The presentations were followed by a silent auction benefiting UF’s Campaign for Charities. Fall IT Assembly photos are posted on UFIT’s Facebook page.
