Use the Break Periods to Develop Your Professional Skills

Take advantage of the upcoming holiday breaks to build your professional skills using LinkedIn Learning and UFApps.

Students can access more than 21,000 courses on LinkedIn Learning for FREE with their GatorLink credentials. What do you need to learn that will make you stand out from other applicants for that job or internship? You can take a database fundamentals course, advanced Excel, learn Python or Adobe Creative Cloud and more, from the comfort of your couch or while flying home!

UFIT also provides UFApps, enabling access to 130+ applications you can use to build proficiency in professional-level tools, such as MATLAB, Autodesk, and SPSS. Your experience with these applications can be valuable additions to your resume and job applications. Go to https://info.apps.ufl.edu/ and click “Login to UFApps” on the top right to get started.

Enjoy these free opportunities while you can, because software applications are expensive and a LinkedIn Learning account will cost you more than $20/month after graduation. Get Familiar with Classroom Technologies

UFIT is hosting two in-person sessions focused on using installed technologies in campus classrooms. The Tech Byte events will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 15 and Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Turlington Hall – Rm. 2319. All faculty are welcome.

The Tech Byte open house events are a great way for new and returning instructional faculty to become familiar with installed technologies in UF classrooms. At each drop-in session, instructional technology experts will explain the flexibility and capabilities installed in UF classrooms to enhance teaching and learning. Attendees will have the opportunity to try out available technology and resources including lecture recording options, cameras for Zoom/Teams sessions, microphones, pre-installed software, and digital annotation tools. Staff can also provide guidance on incorporating LinkedIn Learning and UFApps into your courses, and help connect you with any other technical assistance needed from UFIT. Faculty and staff can pre-register to attend either session. Or…just drop in!

Storage Transition for Graduating Gators

As commencement draws near, graduating students should prepare to separate from campus IT services. This includes content stored in UF GatorCloud apps and UFApps, as well as GatorMail. Students separating from the university transition to alumni status 365 days after their last semester taking classes. While you prepare to graduate, make time to move files before your access becomes limited.

• GatorCloud: Files saved to UF OneDrive, Google Suite, and/or Dropbox services are accessible for up to 365 days after graduation. Relocate your files to a personal storage location to avoid losing important information.
• UFApps: UFApps is not intended to be a long-term storage solution. Be sure to save any coursework files you want to keep to a personal external storage system before leaving UF.
• GatorMail: GatorMail: After 365 days, graduating students are no longer eligible for GatorMail. Using your GatorMail address for third-party accounts will cause access problems, so change your login address to another email account.

Revised UFApps File Storage Policy

The UFApps M:drive is designed for files actively being used and not intended to be a long-term storage solution. Beginning in January 2022, UFApps users with files stored on the M:drive will have their current files archived in a new O:Drive titled “Old UFApps M Drive.” Any file two years old or more will be purged starting January 1, 2023. Then, each December, files on the current M:Drive will be migrated to the O:Drive, and the old O:Drive archive will be purged. UFApps users will always have access to two calendar years’ worth of their M: drive files, the current year and the previous year. Also, to better reflect that it is temporary storage space, this December, the M:StudentFileStorage drive will be renamed M:UFAppsTempStorage.

UFApps users should make a habit of transferring files to another storage option. The easiest way to transfer files is to map your UFApps account to your GatorCloud account via Kumo. Visit the UFApps “start using Kumo” page to learn how. Another option is to move files with a flash drive.

3. ONE.UF: The campus portal to register for classes, viewing and ordering transcripts, and resources like phishing training.
4. GatorMail: UF’s official email service for contacting instructors, administrative staff, and fellow students.
